M.I.A.

Hi friends!

I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I’ve had a ton of things land on my plate and I’m beginning to crumble.

My oldest got back to school, I’m editing book 2, we volunteered to foster a dog, I was volun-told to head up the block party for my neighborhood, my kids are sick, and my family car broke down. Those are the highlights in no particular order.

So mix that all up and you get one stressed out mom/wife/author who ends up going to the ER for chest pains.

Good news: My heart and body are good, great even!

Bad news: I suck at managing my stress and was having an anxiety attack. -_-

Time to prioritize things and learn how to cope with my new life.

So bear with me as I reboot AJ 2.0.

Quick news:

Widower’s Aura has received some pretty great reviews so far. If you liked Sofia and Noah’s story, please tell a friend (or two.)

There is a Facebook group, St. Fleur Belles, if you want to join it and get a chance to talk about the town of St. Fleur, romance, your love of books, and/or make new friends.

Well back to editing! I’m really excited for you to read Lindsey and Marc’s story in book 2.

Have a great day and happy reading!

xoxo

Goodread Reviews:

“This book is so very well written and it takes a trope that is quite difficult to get right and gets it so very, very write. A.J. Renee’s debut novel is filled with a little bit of mystery to add to the romance that is building between Noah and Sofia. Everything flows so naturally through out the story, and even those scenes that are of an explicit sexual nature are so very well written.” -4 Stars Confessions of a Bibliophile

“I really enjoyed this book because the characters are very realistic, down to earth, charming, and the chemistry between not only the two main characters but all of them is just about perfect. I can’t wait for Lindsey’s and Marc story…” -5 Stars Denise Marie on Goodreads

“This was a well written entertaining read. A.J has created a fabulous cast of characters that the reader warms to and can understand.” -5 Stars Erin Smith on Goodreads

Confessions of a Bibliophile Interview

I did my FIRST interview with Caedy at Confessions of a Bibliophile. Head over to her blog and see which of her ten questions really made me think!

On her blog you can also find where I answer or at least attempt to compile a Top Ten list of my favorite books. An incredibly hard task, you’ll get to see which author got me into romance from how many of her books I chose.Ha!

Caedy also posted her 4 Star review of Widower’s Aura.

“This book is so very well written and it takes a trope that is quite difficult to get right and gets it so very, very write.  A.J. Renee’s debut novel is filled with a little bit of mystery to add to the romance that is building between Noah and Sofia.  Everything flows so naturally through out the story, and even those scenes that are of an explicit sexual nature are so very well written.” -Read the rest of her review here.

Please show this blogger some love for her participation in my Blog Tour!

Thank you again, Confessions of a Bibliophile, for taking time out to interview me and read Widower’s Aura. I’m really excited you enjoyed Sofia and Noah’s story!

Busy, Busy, Busy…

I know it’s been a bit since I posted. My girls finished up their dance season, we had company, went to San Francisco… BUSY!

An update.

Tomorrow Widower’s Aura will be sent to the editor. I want you to have the best experience reading my novels and that includes not having to fumble through grammar issues, etc… Teasers are being worked on but let me tell you picking lines that will leave you guys wanting more sounds easier than it really is. I have one created and I want one more at least.

I’m narrowing down my choice on Always Mine’s book cover. I will also be releasing the synopsis in the coming month or so. This novel features Lindsey and Marc’s story.

Book 3, Jaime Lynn and Jesse’s story, is currently in the works. Follow me on Facebook and Twitter to hear about my progress. I’m at 49% complete and I’m really happy with how it’s coming out. This one won’t have any suspense like Widower’s Aura and Always Mine but the conflict hits some tough, real life experiences and issues. It’s been quite the ride.

I can’t believe July is around the corner! My Pre-Release Blitz is July 19! That’s right around the corner!

I’m also a little under the weather. Here’s hoping I feel better fast! I just read Laura Kaye’s Hard to Let Go this week which was a great read and nice break.

So please bear with me during all this craziness. Feel free to chat me up on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I’d love to hear from you! Don’t forget to follow me and make sure you have your pre-order set for Widower’s Aura, links can be found HERE.

Talk to you soon!

A little about me…

I’m a mother of three, born and raised in the United States and I’m Puerto Rican. I was raised to be proud of my Puerto Rican heritage. I speak the language and will honestly admit that I’m failing my kids in passing on the language. If any of you have taken spanish in school you KNOW it’s not the easiest. My peers and I got in plenty of trouble for, “but it sounds right!”

Anyways, I digress. Today’s post was inspired by a Huffington Post article that claimed only 43% of those they polled knew that Puerto Rican’s are citizens. (If you want to learn a bit more on the history of our citizenship click HERE to learn more from the History Channel.)This is very upsetting to me. Sure I grew up knowing this. To me this is just a reminder of how lacking our education system is. I don’t know about you but short of the Mexican War and Spanish American War we were not taught a lot about Latinos and their impact or relationship within America’s history.

At the bottom of this article there was a side article for click bait. Yup they got me. It was images and quotes of various Hispanic actors in Hollywood. They were speaking out on the lack of casting and how growing up they didn’t see people like them on T.V. It’s true, it really is. We see more now at least. One goes on to say that only gang banger parts were offered, another says crack-ho parts, and another says they asked for them to use their accents. Oh, and the movie Argo? The part Ben Affleck portrays (I’ve never seen it) is a Mexican American man. (This can go two folds, one Ben was the best actor to come along and snag the part, or two shame on casting for not picking one of the many strong Hispanic actors to do the part. You can’t be upset you’re type-casted for how you look and then be upset they didn’t pick you but rather a different race for the part you look more the part of.)

This all saddened me because I can see what they are saying. Personally, I’m an advocate for humanity. I don’t care what you look like, where you come from, what language you speak, or who you have fallen in love with. I really don’t. I may be curious and ask because I’m fascinated about our differences and learning more about real people, not just text book or what stereotypes have told us to believe.

This then had me thinking about my characters. Sofia has exotic high cheek bones but her family line has been from New Orleans for quite some time and with her grandmother’s last name, Blanc, you know there is French ancestry. Noah is an all American man, born and raised and his background like so many people is very blended. Lindsey comes from an Italian American household with light skin and brown eyes. Marc is Puerto Rican, tan with whiskey colored eyes. Jaime Lynn is another American blend. Jesse is described to have milk chocolate skin with brown eyes.

Their careers in order, Juvenile Probation Officer turned photographer, prior Air Force Security Forces airman turned handyman, Librarian, prior Air Force airman turned Construction company owner/worker, Pub owner, and Bartender/Co-owner of a Bar/Brewery.

With all of the above I’ll share, Sofia’s exotic cheek bones and her career as a JPO was inspired by my lovely, beautiful best friend who is now one of my angels. My husband is in the Air Force and brews at home as a hobby. I have a Masters in Criminal Justice and I used to work in a library. I have family in New Orleans and love the city and the people. Quite a few of my friends come from first if not second generation Italian families. I had a few uncles who worked in construction so Marc’s occupation is a nod at them. And Jesse was originally a white southern man. That is until a friend of mine complained he was having a hard time finding a good woman to date. He’s a smart, funny, good looking black man and I thought this really sucked. So Jesse is my way of giving him a love story, even if he has NO CLUE that he inspired pieces of Jesse. I’m also glad I changed Jesse because there really are not enough interracial romance novels. The shortage of stock photos reinforces this fact.

After analyzing my characters I’m happy to see how so many facets of my own beliefs, experiences and the people I love and admire have brought my characters together. I don’t care what you look like or who you fall in love with. I do care about whether or not you are a kind, respectful and loving person. If you treat me and my family as such I like to think I’m a loyal person. If you don’t… well, how about we don’t share too much today?!

Well if you’ve stuck around this far know I’m super excited to share Noah and Sofia with you! You can pre-order now before I raise the price. The links are found HERE.

If you have any questions or thoughts go ahead and comment below. I like to think I’m an open book and sometimes I don’t know what you want to know about me. I’d love to hear from you!

EXCITED!

Gosh, I can’t even believe I’m at this point! I’m so excited to announce that Widower’s Aura is now available for pre-orders at Barnes and Noble, Kobo, iBooks and Smashwords.

I never thought this was a path I’d take but I’m incredibly happy with it. I hope you fall in love with Sofia and Noah as much as I did.

Special thanks are in order to my husband who backs me up on anything that makes me happy, I’m so blessed to have my own happily ever after. In no specific order and I hope I don’t leave anyone out. Thank you, Brenda, Julie, Lucy, Angie, Al, Alli, Alex, Patti, Katie, and Paula. You have all accepted my texts and phone calls as I frantically spill out ideas or cries for help. So many others have supported in various ways and have been cheerleaders and I can’t thank you all enough.

Thank you for holding me up when I lost faith in myself. The right words do-not-exist, but thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Everything is moving in the right direction so I can bring you all the town of St. Fleur. I’m very excited to introduce you to Sofia and Noah. It took me about five months to write the first draft and many, many more to clean it up. My lovely editor will go through it next to ensure you receive the best quality. As a reader that is what I expect and as an author I can’t give you anything less than my best. Please bear with me in the meantime.

I know I mentioned that I’m working on getting my pre-orders up and I have yet to announce it. Sorry about that. There are a few things I need before I can do that. When it’s up I will be shouting it from the roof tops before biting my nails to nubs.

I’m finishing up a short story that has nothing to do with St. Fleur. I’ll keep you posted on any news there.

You can now find the blog posts under their own tab on the menu. I’m debating some other changes to make it easier on all of you to find me on my social sites. Everything should be user friendly and if you find something that is not, I encourage you to message me.

The tide is changing…

Today I woke up to the sound of rain slapping the stucco covering my home and for some people it’s a mood killer. Personally, I love the occasional storm. Rain washes away the streets of grime and brings rainbows and flowers.

Living in the desert every drop we get is a blessing. Too little water and we have problems and yet too much rain at once and we have even bigger issues. As I reflect on the state of Texas dealing with flooding I think of those families that have been changed forever. The clouds not only opened up over them to feed the land but now…now it is a reflection of their bleeding hearts and the endless tears cascading down their cheeks.

Life is delicate. I’ve mentioned in my about me that writing was never on my list of things that I wanted to do. The fact that I wrote Widower’s Aura is a complete surprise even now, two years later. It was my own therapy to write the love connection between Sofia and Noah. Everything I created in my world of St. Fleur has been based off my own imagination as have the characters. I did store a couple pieces of someone I lost way too early in life into the story. A way to honor and commemorate a beautiful life that can only live in my memories and forever in my heart.

Not everyone in this world gets their love story. Some get a horror story gift wrapped in the idea of love. Others don’t live long enough to experience the blessing of a true partner in life.

As I stumble through this exciting time in my life, preparing to share Sofia and Noah with the world, I can’t help but think of the people in my life that aren’t here to share it with me. Wanting to lift the phone to my ear and hear their laughter, excitement, and guidance but only feeling the tears as they slip down my cheeks unchecked.

The tide is changing once again in my life. It’s time to either sink or swim. How do you handle the ever changing tide?

Are you a bibliophile?

Bibliophile: a person who loves or collects books, Merriam-Webster’s website.

Do you consider yourself a bibliophile? I may not collect books but I sure do love them. So many wonderful stories are held within the bindings of so many books. From fairy tales to memoirs to my absolute favorite, romance.

Reading used to be considered a privilege for society’s elite. Slaves and women were not encouraged to read or educate themselves and neither were society’s poor. Those in power feared what would happen when those “beneath” them assumed the skill. They would lose that power. As we all know, knowledge is power.

Now a days we encourage children to learn that same skill as early as preschool. You can’t fall in love with a book if you can’t read it. What better way to exercise your brain and your imagination than reading words off a page and seeing your version of the world the author created?

It’s very easy to allow the burdens of your day and the darkness of those lost affect you. Each day we are consumed with stress from everyday living. Whether it be your job, family, friends, or people who are malicious and find joy in others misery. Reading a happily ever after romance novel allows me to push away the stress of my day and just relax.

I fell in love with books the moment that calm washed over me. Cheering on the protagonists as they overcame their own struggles to come together in their love. THAT helps me remember that the glass really is half-full. It’s so easy to let the pessimist in my head take over but the moment I melt in a story, Sofia and Noah’s or one created by another author, I can feel the optimist in me triumph as the stress of the day melts away.

My drug of choice may be the romance genre but no matter the genre that fills you, I encourage you to find a book that reminds you that the glass is indeed, half-full.

Widower’s Aura

Book one of my St. Fleur series, Widower’s Aura, is a stand alone novel featuring Sofia Brazier and Noah Tyler, rated for a mature audience. I hope you guys fall in love with Sofia and Noah as much as I did.

Living in a world full of colors, Sofia Brazier escapes a career gone south as a juvenile probationary officer in New Orleans. Moving to the small town of St. Fleur, Sofia opens a photography business in hopes of ridding her life of all the dark auras surrounding the damaged souls she once tried helping. Her new comfortable life is upended when widower, and ex-security forces turned handyman hunk, Noah Tyler, enters the local pub.

Noah attempts at all costs to avoid the voluptuous beauty that has captivated his every thought. That is until his daughter vandalizes Sofia’s building and effectively seals their fate. After cutting his daughter a break, Sofia begins tearing down the walls he built after his wife’s death.

Just when life finally seems worth living for Noah, Sofia finds herself the victim of a string of crimes. Can he protect Sofia when he failed to protect his own wife?
